GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Emily Green scored her third goal of the season but it was Fredonia tallying two goals in the second half to take the 2-1 victory, Friday, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener for both teams.

"We played pretty well but were unable to take care of the little things," said head coach Nate Wiley. "While we dominated the game, we also made a couple costly mistakes that Fredonia was able to capitalize on. We didn't take care of the opportunities we had and played the game today as if we would get another chance but eventually our chances ran out. More urgency and smarter decisions will be needed, especially at the front third of the field, if we want a better result in our match tomorrow."

The Knights got on the board in the 35th minute when Green headed the ball into the top right corner of the goal off of a corner kick by junior midfielder Stephanie Clookey to go up 1-0.

In the 62nd minute, Blue Devils' sophomore midfielder Kristie Kleine beat a couple defenders and struck the ball from twenty yards out into the top right of the net for the equalizer. Fredonia (3-4, 1-0) took the 2-1 lead just three minutes later when sophomore forward Alexis Moreland tapped the ball past Geneseo senior keeper Allison Stamp in a crowded box off an assist from junior midfielder Ally Tatro.

Despite controlling much of play in the second half and finishing the game with a 25-7 advantage in shots, the Knights were unable to get back on the board. Stamp was credited with six saves in the setback.

Geneseo (6-2-1, 0-1) continues SUNYAC play tomorrow afternoon by hosting Buffalo State. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Saratoga Field.
