Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior keeper Logan Calvey collected six saves but the team fell short at Fredonia, 1-0, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener for both squads.
Back and forth possessions and many narrowly missed opportunities resulted in neither team getting on the board by halftime. In the 74th minute, Blue Devils' junior midfielder Max Prosser broke the scoreless draw with a goal after first-year forward Aaron Hayes chipped him the ball.
Trailing 1-0 with 17 minutes to play, Geneseo strung together a couple strong offensive series but was unable to get past Fredonia's sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Torrelli. Torelli saved late shots on goal by senior midfielder Neil Allen and senior back Tyler Chauncey to preserve the shutout.
The Knights were outshot by Fredonia (6-1, 1-0), 11-9, in the setback as each team earned five corner kicks.
Geneseo (3-4-1, 0-1) continues SUNYAC play with a game at Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
