Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year back Leah Greene notched her second goal of the season late in the second half to lead the No. 17 Knights in a 2-2 draw opposite visiting RIT in non-league play, Tuesday.
"We started off slow and they capitalized on it, but we were down today for the first time all season so it was nice to see us come back," said head coach Nate Wiley. "We figured out a way to draw even twice, which I think was a good character builder for us. It's a good time of year to gain experience playing from behind and I'm happy we were able to tie it back up against a strong RIT team."
The Tigers got on the board early when first-year back Sarah Szczepanski scored on a corner kick after just three minutes of play. Geneseo responded in the 13th minute when junior forward Kelsey Raschke controlled a pass outside the box from senior forward Jori Semrau and flicked it over the goalkeeper.
RIT regained the lead in the 21st minute when senior forward Sierra Kiss chipped it over Knights senior keeper Allison Stamp's left shoulder inside the near post for the 2-1 lead that held up into the second half.
In the 74th minute, junior midfielder Marissa Benson came up with the ball in a crowd in front of the goal and laid the ball off to Greene, who scored from close range into the top right corner of the net for the equalizer.
Possession in the overtime periods went back and forth but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Sophomore back Meaghan Johnston took the only shot for the Knights in extra play but it was high.
Stamp recorded six saves to preserve the draw as the team outshot the Tigers, 18-10.
Geneseo returns to action this Saturday as part of a men's and women's soccer double-header. The team will follow the men's 12 p.m. game versus Hobart with a match against St. Lawrence slated to kick-off at 3 p.m. at Saratoga Field.
