No. 23 Women's Soccer Tops Houghton, 1-0, Improves to 6-0

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Jori Semrau scored her second goal of the weekend and her third of the year to lead the No. 23 Knights past Houghton, 1-0, Saturday.

"The second day of a double-header can be tough but we ground it out and battled today," said head coach Nate Wiley. "We did a good job of not letting Houghton become too dangerous offensively and did well with keeping possession. We took advantage of a good opportunity early on and remained strong defensively to finish the game."

Geneseo got on the scoreboard after eight minutes of play after senior back Erin Froehlich delivered a long cross into Semrau in the box who capitalized to put the Knights up 1-0.

"Jori has a nose for the goal and has really fit well up front with the new system we've put in place. She uses her body well and has good instinct and she's rewarded herself for it," said Wiley.

While Houghton controlled more play in the second half, the squad was unable to find the back of the net. Geneseo senior keeper Allison Stamp recorded four saves to preserve her fifth shutout of the season as the team outshot the Highlanders, 11-6.

The Knights continue their stretch of five-straight home games with a match-up opposite RIT on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
