Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw At Ithaca

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior back Chris Kanaval scored his first goal of the season to carry the Knights to a 1-1 draw at Ithaca in non-league play, Saturday afternoon.

"It was a competitive game but we know we could have played better. We never got into a real rhythm offensively and struggled mentally throughout the game," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We dictated play much better in the second half and in each overtime but we just couldn't convert."

Geneseo got on the board in the 20th minute when senior midfielder Patrick Gunty cut the ball inside and served it with his left foot into the box where Kanaval was able to head it into the right side of the goal, giving the Knights the 1-0 lead.

The Bombers tied the game in the 48th minute when Casey Williamson found the back of the net with a low shot from the middle of the box.

Geneseo tallied 13 shots and outshot Ithaca 6-2 in overtime but were unable to capitalize to come away with the victory. Junior keeper Logan Calvey collected three saves to preserve the draw.

The Knights return to action Wednesday for a home game opposite Alfred slated to begin at 4 p.m.
