Box Score 2 DALLAS, Pa. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team picked up two more shutout victories at the Misericordia (Pa.) Tournament on Saturday, defeating RIT and the host Cougars to start the 2014 campaign with a 3-0 record.
I thought our team set the standard this weekend for who we are going to be this year," said head coach Jen Salmon. "We overcame deficits, finished sets aggressively and the confidence and trust our players showed in one another was tangible no matter who was on the floor."
GENESEO 3, RIT 0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19)
Junior outside hitter Lizzy Morton totaled a team-high eight kills and three service aces while sophomore libero Dani Sayler added 10 digs to lead the Knights to the shutout win over RIT.
Junior setter Bethany VanDerMeid added 19 assists directing the Knights attack, while the defense held RIT to a .107 attack percentage on the afternoon.
GENESEO 3, MISERICORDIA 0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-16)
VanDerMeid registered her first collegiate double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs while directing the Knights' attack to a sparkling .346 team hitting percentage to complete the three-match sweep.
Morton totaled a team-high nine kills while adding seven digs as sophomore outside hitter Tricia Baxley and sophomore right side Emma Lannon were each credited with seven kills to pace the attack.
Geneseo kicks off the home portion of the 2014 slate on Wednesday night, hosting Hilbert at 7:00 p.m. in Schrader Gymnasium.
