Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Gordon Lyons scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds but it was Dickinson defeating the Knights, 83-76, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, Friday.
Junior Andy Drescher came off the bench to score 16 points, including 4-of-5 three-pointers, while senior Connor Fedge scored 16 points to finish his career among the top-10 scorers in program history. Senior guard Thomas Decker totaled 10 points and a career-high 10 assists in his final collegiate game, while senior forward Matt Curry added 11 points in the loss.
With Dickinson leading, 16-13, with 11:58 on the first-half clock, Geneseo used a 19-6 run to build a 32-22 lead with 5:59 on the clock. A Drescher three-pointer capped a 7-1 spurt to start the run, before another Drescher long ball punctuated a 10-2 run to finish it.
A Curry layup would give Geneseo its biggest lead of the game, 35-26, with 3:16 on the clock, but the Red Devils would finish the half on a 6-2 run to cut the Knights' lead to five, 37-32, at half.
After being held scoreless and to only one shot in the first half, Dickinson's Brandon Angradi would hit the first of his five three-pointers eight seconds into the second half to start a 10-1 run to put Geneseo down, 42-38, at 17:30.
The Knights would come back to tie the game, 44-44, at 16:22, as the two teams battled back and forth over the next six minutes. Tied, 54-54, with 9:32 to play, the Red Devils (22-6) would go on a 15-4 run, hitting five three-pointers in the next five minutes to take a 69-58 lead it would never relinquish.
Geneseo held Dickinson's Adam Honig, the Centennial Conference Player of the Year to five points on 2-of-7 shooting in the first half, but the senior guard would score 19 points in the second half to help the Red Foxes out-score the Knights 51-39 in the final 20 minutes.
Geneseo was making its eighth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and first since making back-to-back appearances in 1998 and 1999.
