Box Score GENESEO N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Allison McKenna scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Knights over Potsdam, 79-64, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball, Friday.
The Bears were hot from the outside to start the game, scoring 27 of their first 29 points from three-point range and connecting on 10-of-15 total shots from beyond the arc in the first half. Potsdam would build its largest lead, 38-25, with 3:01 on the clock, but the Knights would use an 8-0 run to close within five, 38-33, at intermission.
"I was very happy with the way we responded in the second hald after being down in the first half," said head coach Scott Hemer. "Hopefully that is a sign of continued growth as we look ahead to the rest of the season."
The Knights (13-5, 7-4 SUNYAC) came out of the locker room on a 17-9 run to take a 50-47 edge with 12:50 on the clock they would never relinquish. Leading, 56-53, with 8:57 left, Geneseo would use a 13-3 spurt to build a 69-56 lead with 3:21 to play to put the game out of reach.
The Knights out-rebounded the Bears, 44-23, including a 28-7 margin in the second half, while also dominating the paint with a 44-10 edge in points down low.
Junior forward Shannon McGinnis totaled a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with nine points, while senior guard Biz Reinhardt and first-year forward Katie Durand each totaled season-highs with 14 points apiece.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, hosting Plattsburgh at 2:00 p.m. in Schrader Gymnasium.
