CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore goalie Nick Horrigan made a career-best 40 saves while senior forward Zachary Vit and first-year forward Jack Ceglarski each added a goal and an assist to lead the Knights to a 3-2 victory over Cortland in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey action, Saturday.
Geneseo opened the scoring at 9:35 on Vit's team-leading 17th goal, off an assist from Ceglarski. Cortland responded with a pair of goals in less than two minute to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Geneseo scored two unanswered goals to move ahead for good in the second half. Junior forward Tyler Brickler tied the game, 2-2, at 12:27 and before Ceglarski scored the eventual game-winner at 14:29
The Knights earned their fourth-straight victory despite being out-shot by a 42-27 margin as Horrigan improved to 9-1 with the victory.
Geneseo (18-5, 12-2 SUNYAC) moves into a tie for first place in the SUNYAC standings with idle Plattsburgh (11-1-2 SUNYAC). A pair of wins over Buffalo State and Fredonia at home this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 21 and 22) would clinch the Knights the top seed for the SUNYAC Tournament.
