Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Genseo senior forward Zachary Vit and junior forward Justin Scharfe each tallied a first-period goal but it was Potsdam scoring four unanswered goals to earn the 5-2 victory over the No. 14 Knights, Saturday night, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) ice hockey.
Potsdam (7-12, 2-8 SUNYAC) got on the board in the fourth minute on a goal by Tommy Telesca, but the Knights would answer with two of their own in the next seven minutes to lead, 2-1, with 10:21 on the clock. Vit found the net with a shot from the slot off assists from first-year linemate Jack Ceglarski and sophomore forward David Ripple 8:36 into the contest, before Scharfe scored off helpers from first-year forward Connor Anthoine and senior centerman Jonathan Sucese to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Bears would hold the Knights scoreless the rest of the game, while tying things up, 2-2, with 1:35 to play in the second period on a shot by Adam Place. Potsdam would pull away with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period before adding an empty-netter as time expired to earn the win.
Knights' junior goalie Bryan Haude took the loss, despite making 42 saves on the night as Potsdam out-shot Geneseo, 47-30.
Geneseo (14-5, 8-2 SUNYAC) will return to action with a home-and-home doubleheader with Brockport next Friday and Saturday, kicking the weekend off on the road with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff with the Golden Eagles.
