Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior guard Dana Cohan scored a game-high 21 points but it was Roberts Wesleyan taking the 67-64 overtime win in the semifinals of the 22nd Annual Wendy's College Classic, Thursday night.
Senior forward Shannon McGinnis added 16 points and 16 rebounds for her third-straight double-double on the season, while senior center Katie Peterson added eight points in the setback. Junior forward Allison McKenna contributed four points in her first game back after missing the last three games due to an ankle injury.
Tied at 7-7 with 15:21 on the clock, Geneseo went on a 28-6 run to take their largest lead of the game, 35-15. The run was capped by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Bridgit Ryan at 4:21. Cohan went 7-7 from the field, including 3-3 from long range, during the run as the Knights entered halftime up 35-19. Ryan finished the game with six points and four rebounds.
After the Redhawks went on a 10-5 run to start the second half, McGinnis hit a jumper from the foul-line to extend Geneseo's lead, 42-30, with 13:29 left to play. Roberts Wesleyan hit a jumper to pull within six, 44-38, but the Knights responded with a layup by Peterson at 9:36.
With 5:30 remaining in the game, senior guard Biz Reinhardt finished a drive along the left baseline to bring the score to 54-45.
The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes but a three-pointer and two free-throws by the Redhawks cut the deficit to three, 60-57, at 0:34.
A three-point play in their next possession put the score at 61-60 with 15 seconds on the clock. After sophomore guard Kara Houppert hit a free-throw to put Geneseo up, 62-60, Roberts Wesleyan hit a jumper from the top right corner of the paint as time expired to send the game into overtime.
After a bucket by each team, the Redhawks hit two free-throws to go up 66-64 with 1:11 left to play. The Knights were unable to convert on their final possessions as Roberts Wesleyan came away with the victory.
Geneseo will play for third place against fifth-seeded St. John Fisher, who fell to top-seeded Rochester, 88-79. The teams will face-off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at RIT.
