Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team saw its season come to an end in the championship game of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament as the fourth-seeded Knights fell to third-seeded and host New Paltz, 4-0, Saturday.

Junior goalie Dayna Mercer was named to the all-tournament team after totaling 10 saves in the championship setback and 13 in Wednesday's 2-1 upset of top-seeded and nationally 15th-ranked Cortland.

Senior midfielder Ashley Favata and junior midfielder Elena Hingston were also named all-tournament selections as the Knights (9-12) were making their fifth-straight appearance in the SUNYAC Tournament.

New Paltz (14-6) scored in the third minute of the match on a tally by Jessica Caruana from the top-right side of the circle. Nine minutes later, Deirdre O'Neill scored off her own rebound after a Mercer save to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead they would carry into halftime.

In the 53rd minute, Dani Ackerman converted a penalty corner to put Geneseo in a three-goal hole, before Kayle McKeveny cleaned up a scramble in front in the 65th minute for the final goal of the game.

New Paltz earned its third-straight SUNYAC Championship with the victory, while securing an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
