Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Ryan Donnelly scored his first goal of the season, but it was Potsdam picking up the 2-1 victory over the No. 4 Knights, Friday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey.
Potsdam (2-1-0, 1-1-0 SUNYAC) goalie Jon Hall compiled 29 saves while Ken Simon was credited with what proved to be the game-winning tally 40 seconds into the third period in the win.
The Bears got on the board at 11:14 of the first period Kyle Thacker send a long pass up the boards to Logan Brown, who skated into the left faceoff circle in the Geneseo zone. Brown fired a hard shot that deflected off Knights' junior goalie Nick Horrigan's left pad, but Matt Thompson collected the short rebound and buried a quick shot inside the right post for the only goal of the first period.
Donnelly scored the lone goal of a penalty-filled second period as both teams were whistled for four infractions. First-year defender Pat Condon took a long cross from sophomore forward Rj Burns on the left boards in the Potsdam zone and sent the puck directly in front of the right post where Donnelly tapped home the equalizer with 11:55 on the clock.
Simon finished off another short rebound after a long shot by Billy Pascalli from the left point glanced off Horrigan's pads. Simon stuffed the deciding goal inside the right post with 19:20 showing on the clock.
Potsdam finished with a 35-30 shooting advantage as Horrigan finished the evening with 33 saves to take the loss.
The Knights (2-1-0, 2-1-0 SUNYAC) return to action on Saturday, hosting No. 7 Plattsburgh at 7:00 p.m. in SUNYAC play at Wilson Ice Arena.
