Men's Soccer Falls To Oneonta In SUNYAC Semifinal, 4-0

Box Score

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior keeper Logan Calvey recorded seven saves but it was host and top-seeded Oneonta defeating the fifth-seeded Knights, 4-0, in the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament, Wednesday afternoon.

"The game didn't go exactly how we wanted it to and Oneonta played much better than us today," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "Their passes and ball movement put us on our heels for a majority of the match. However, it's difficult to get to the conference semifinals and for long stretches this season we played really solid soccer and the guys should be proud."

The Red Dragons got on the board early and never looked back. In the 5th minute, sophomore midfielder Hans Purtell scored after taking a pass down the right sideline from junior midfielder Matthew Matteo.

In the 21st minute, first-year forward Cory Santangelo scored into the right side of the goal off a cross by junior midfielder Colin Volpe. Oneonta struck again in the 35th minute when junior midfielder Dylan Williams took another cross by Volpe and scored into the right post.

In the 77th minute, Purtell tallied his second goal of the match off an assist from junior back Alex Winiarski to seal the victory for the Red Dragons.

Geneseo finishes the 2014 season with record of 11-8-2, including a conference mark of 4-4-1.
