Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Tyler Brickler and sophomore forward Connor Anthoine each scored third-period goals while senior goalie Nick Horrigan made 29 saves to lead the Knights past No. 5 Oswego, 2-1, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey actions, Tuesday.
Geneseo (5-3, 4-3 SUNYAC) handed the host Lakers (5-1-2, 3-1-1 SUNYAC) their first loss of the season in a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Tournament Championship game, won by the Oswego, 7-6.
Horrigan was credited with 21 saves through the first 40 minutes of play, including 15 in the first period as the teams played to a scoreless draw entering the second intermission. However, the Knights started the final period with an extended power play following a 10 minute game misconduct on Andrew Barton with 1:22 in the second.
With exactly a minute elapsed, Brickler cashed in assists by junior forward David Ripple and senior defenseman Jack Caradonna for the game's first tally. Just over two minutes later, Geneseo was awarded a penalty shot after Oswego's Stephen Johns was called for closing his hand on the puck, but it was Laker net minder Matt Zawadzki coming up with one of his 14 saves on the evening to keep the visitors withing a goal.
Anthoine scored off an assist from sophomore defesman Derek Stahl with 7:35 to play in regulation to put Geneseo up, 2-0, heading down the final stretch of the period.
Oswego pulled Zawadzki for an extra skater with 51 seconds to play, but it wasn't until the final second of the game that the Lakers scored on a tally by Chris Raguseo for the night's final goal.
Geneseo returns to action next Tuesday (Dec. 2) taking on host Nazareth in a non-league match at 7:00 p.m.
