No. 17 Men's Ice Hockey Slips At Cortland, 4-2

Box Score

CORTLAND, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Jack Ceglarski and first-year forward Trevor Hills each scored a goal, but four unanswered scores led host Cortland to the 4-2 victory over the No. 17 Knights, Friday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey.

Hills opened the scoring with 8:26 left in the first period before Ceglarski found the net 55 seconds into the second period to stake the Knights to the two goal edge.

Cortland responded 52 seconds later on a tally by Dan Broderick and knotted the game on a goal by Darren McCormick with 5:25 remaining in the second as the teams headed to the third period tied, 2-2.

Ceglarski was called for a cross checking penalty 1:27 into the third period before Nick Zappia cashed in a Red Dragon power play tally 31 seconds later that gave Cortland the lead for good with 18:13 left in regulation.

Geneseo never found the equalizer as Zappia added an empty-net marker with 52 seconds on the clock to seal the Red Dragons' first win of the season.

Drew Weigman was credited with 41 saves in the win while Knights senior Nick Horrigan ended the night with 26 saves in the loss.

Geneseo (4-3, 3-3 SUNYAC) returns to action on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. face-off at Oswego in a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Championship game.
