Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Tyler Brickler totaled two goals and an assist while first-year forward Sotiris Athanasopoulos scored his first two collegiate goals to lead the No. 11 Knights to the 7-2 victory over visiting Franklin Pierce, Saturday.

Sophomore Matt Leon was credited with 21 saves to earn the victory in his first collegiate start for the Knights (3-2).

Brickler got the Knights going with his first goal with 7:11 on the first-period clock, before junior junior winger David Ripple cleaned up a rebounded shot from the slot by senior forward Ryan Stanimir at 5:42. Athanasopoulos collected his own rebound after his shot from the left face-off circle was initially saved and scored from close range to put the Knights up 3-0 with 3:08 to play in the period.

Franklin Pierce (0-4) jumped out with a pair of goals 24 seconds apart early in the second period to pull the Ravens within one, 3-2. Paddy Murphy found the net at 16:36 before Jonathan Lee beat Leon at 16:12.

The Knights responded with three unanswered goals to finish the period and take a 6-2 lead at the second intermission. Athanasopoulos camped out on the goal line to the left of the Franklin Pierce cage and scored on a hard shot off a nice feed from sophomore forward Stephen Collins with 14:34 on the clock, before Brickler converted a one-on-one attempt with Ravens goalie Kyle Moran after collecting a turnover in the offensive zone during a power play at 12:17. First-year blue liner Pat Condon was the beneficiary of some quick passing by first-year forward Jack Ceglarski and junior defender Nate Brown as he scored his first goal in a Geneseo sweater following a Franklin Pierce slashing penalty to make it a four-goal edge for the Knights at 9:09 left in the second.

Geneseo tacked on one goal in the third after junior defender Matthew Hutchinson scored off assists by senior forward Zach Martin and sophomore forward Rj Burns with 10:56 to play in regulation.

Geneseo hits the road for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match next Friday, taking on host Cortland in a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
