MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Stephen Collins scored two goals and an assist to lead the No. 4 Knights to a 6-0 shutout at Morrisville, Saturday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey.

Junior goalie Nick Horrigan finished two saves shy of his career-high, stopping 38 shots to pick up his first shutout of the season.  

"It is tough to beat a team twice in one weekend but I thought we did a great job of focusing on competing and being tough to play against," said head coach Chris Schultz. "It was a chippy and physical weekend but we came together as a team and finished the job."

Junior defenseman Matt Solomon got things rolling for Geneseo with his first goal of the season with 14:23 to play in the first period. Senior forward Justin Scharfe scored off an assist from sophomore centerman Jack Ceglarski in just over two minutes later to put the visitors up 2-0 at the first intermission.

Collins accounted for both of the Knights' goals in the second period, finding the net off an assist from senior winger Ryan Stanimir at the 14:41 mark before converting off assists from Ceglarski and junior forward David Ripple with 5:27 left in the period.

In the third period, Stanimir scored a short-handed goal with helpers from Collins and Solomon with 5:16 left in regulation, before senior forward Tyler Brickler closed the scoring with a tally with 2:16 left on the clock to seal the win.

Geneseo opens the home portion of its 2014-15 schedule next week, hosting SUNYAC-rivals Potsdam and Plattsburgh on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games are slated to face-off at 7:00 p.m. at the Wilson Ice Arena.
