Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Stanley Egbuchulam scored his team-leading third goal of the season to lead the Knights past host RIT, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon.
"Today we made a couple of changes to the back in the starting line-up due to injuries so I didn't really know what to expect," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "RIT is a tough place to play, and despite their increased pressure in the second half, we remained strong defensively. Overall, we were physical, competed well and played really hard to come away with the win."
Geneseo narrowly missed a number of opportunities throughout the first 45 minutes until Egbuchulam scored in the 37th minute to get the Knights on the board. Egbuchulam rebounded his own shot after senior forward Jason Iannone and senior midfielder Connor Beisner connected passes through the midfield to set up the scoring play.
The Tigers tallied seven shots in the second period but were unable to even the score. Junior keeper Logan Calvey collected five saves to preserve his fourth shutout of the season as Geneseo outshot RIT, 14-13.
The Knights return to action Saturday for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match at Brockport slated to begin at 6 p.m.
