Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Emily Topping scored her first goal of the season, but it was visiting New Paltz taking the 3-1 win in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Saturday, at Upper Alumni Field.
Topping joined classmates Ashley Favata, Cathryn Menarchem and Heidi Deppmeyer in being honored before the match in a Senior Day ceremony in recognition for their service to the program during their time with the Knights.
The Hawks (7-4, 3-1 SUNYAC) got on the board in the 21st minute as Kayla McKeveny went in for the tap-in during a scramble in front of the net. Over ten minutes later, New Paltz added another tally after Dani Ackerman converted a feed from McKeveny in the 34th minute to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at halftime.
New Paltz started the second half with a penalty stroke goal at 46:40 by Ackerman. The Knights (3-8, 1-2 SUNYAC) responded in the 62nd minute after Topping took a pass from first-year forward Emma Dempsey following a scramble in front of the New Paltz goal and tapped in a shot for her first tally of the season.
Geneseo junior goalie Dayna Mercer had five saves in the loss, while Deppmeyer was credited with three saves in 21:33 of relief play.
Geneseo returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 8) with a road game against Nazareth. Face-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
