Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Sarah Malinak scored a goal with :03 left in the first half, but it was Oneonta taking the 3-1 victory in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey play, Friday afternoon.
Oneonta (5-4, 2-1 SUNYAC) got on the board in the 26th minute after Kelcy Forbragd got open behind Geneseo (3-7, 1-1 SUNYAC) junior goalkeeper Dayna Mercer and tipped in a short pass from Anna Torri off a deflected shot.
With the final seconds of the first half ticking away, Malinak tipped in a rebound of a shot by first-year forward Caroline Bates on a penalty corner attempt that was initially saved off the pads of Oneonta goalie Krista Servedio as the teams headed to intermssion tied, 1-1.
Two second-half Red Dragon goals were the difference. Andrea Day tucked a three-yard shot inside the left post off a pass in front of the goal by Bailee Barrett in the 48th the minute before Sierra Earle's shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner attempt made its way through traffic and into the back of the goal in the 64th minute.
Mercer finished with 10 saves while Servedio stopped five Knights' shots to earn her first win of the season.
Oneonta finished with a 17-13 advantage in shots while both teams attempted seven penalty corners.
Geneseo returns to action on Saturday, hosting defending SUNYAC Champion New Paltz at 1:00 p.m.
