Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior back Tyler Chauncey scored his first goal of the season as the Knights defeated host St. John Fisher, 3-0, to end the regular season, Wednesday night.
"It was important for us to play well tonight entering the postseason and we did just that," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We were able to get some solid goals and hopefully that extends into the weekend. I definitely feel confident with our play going into Saturday's game."
In the 15th minute, senior forward Jason Iannone scored from ten yards out off an assist from junior back Brad Campion for his third goal of the season.
In the 28th minute, Chauncey put home a loose ball in the box as Geneseo entered halftime with a 2-0 lead and a 11-3 margin in shots.
In the 77th minute, senior forward Richard Bellusci put the game out of reach when he came from the right side of the field, took a pass from junior midfielder Ian Ksanznak and scored into the far post from 18 yards out for his second goal of the year.
Despite outshooting the Knights 15-5 in the second half, the Cardinals were unable to get on the scoreboard. Junior keeper Logan Calvey recorded a save and sophomore keeper Trevor Heckathorn collected seven saves in 45 minutes of play each as the Knights earned their eighth shutout of the season.
Geneseo has clinched the fifth seed for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament and will play a first-round match at fourth-seeded Potsdam, Saturday (Nov. 1st) at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals and play at top-seeded Oneonta on Wednesday (Nov. 5th) at 1 p.m.
