Field Hockey Falls In 2OT At Ithaca, 2-1

Box Score

ITHACA, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Amy Fasel scored a first-half goal, but it was host Ithaca outlasting the Knights for a 2-1 double-overtime decision, Tuesday.

After a scoreless first half, Ithaca got on the board in the 47th minute after Natalie Lynch carried the ball in on the Geneseo goal and beat Knights' junior goalkeeper Dayna Mercer for the unassisted tally.

Fasel tied the game in the 58th minute with her second goal of the season. After taking a pass from first-year forwad Cara Stafford, Fasel curled around Bomber keeper Katie Lass and was able to get off a low shot before being knocked down that found the back of the cage for the equalizer.

Geneseo out-shot its hosts, 9-4, in overtime, but it was Ithaca's Cassie Schuttrumpf finishing off a run on Mercer with a backhanded chip shot for the deciding tally in the 97th minute.

Geneseo (7-10) finished the game with a 27-20 advantage in shots, while Mercer was credited with seven saves in the loss. Lass finished the night with 15 saves to earn the win for Ithaca (7-8).

The Knights close out the home portion of the regular season hosting St. John Fisher on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
