Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Cara Stafford tallied two goals while junior goalie Dayna Mercer collected 13 saves to lead the Knights to a 2-1 win over Oswego in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Saturday.
With the win, the Knights (7-9, 3-3 SUNYAC) clinch the fourth seed for the SUNYAC Tournament and will take on top seeded and host Cortland (13-2, 6-0 SUNYAC) on Wednesday (Nov. 5) in the semifinals.
Mercer made three saves within the first five minutes before the Knights got on the board on the other end at 17:21. Stafford converted a feed from junior forward Sarah Malinak to make the score 1-0. Stafford followed up 27 minutes later with her team-leading ninth goal after collecting her own rebound and squeaking it past the Lakers' goalie.
Oswego (6-9, 1-5 SUNYAC) responded in the last minutes of the game as Lisa O'Callaghan gathered the ball off of a rebound and knocked it to the back of the net at 65:59 for a final score.
Before heading to the post season, Geneseo will take a trip to Ithaca on Tuesday (Oct. 28) for a 4:00 p.m. faceoff before hosting St. John Fisher on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
