Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Meaghan Johnston scored her second goal of the season to lead the Knights past visiting Plattsburgh, 1-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Friday afternoon.
"We played really well in the first half today and could have tallied a couple more goals," said head coach Nate Wiley. "In the second half, we got away from our game a bit and didn't handle their pressure as well as I would have liked us to but certainly a lesson to learn. We just have to possess the ball better and find players in the right positions."
In the ninth minute, Johnston collected a loose ball off a Cardinals defender at the top of the box and scored into the the lower left side of the net to put Geneseo up 1-0, which held into halftime.
Play went back and fourth in the second period but the Knights' defense held Plattsburgh (7-7-1, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) to only one shot on goal to preserve their ninth shutout of the season.
Senior keeper Allison Stamp was only called upon to make one save as Geneseo outshot the Cardinals, 12-4.
The Knights (13-2-2, 6-1-1 SUNYAC) currently stand alone atop the SUNYAC standings with only one game remaining. The squad welcomes Potsdam to town for their final game of the regular season tomorrow at 1 p.m.
