Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Neil Allen tallied his first goal of the season to lead the Knights past host Plattsburgh, 1-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Friday afternoon.
"Our defense was the definitely the key to the game today," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "Plattsburgh is a tough environment to play in and overall it was just a gutsy performance with postseason implications on the line. I'm happy with how we played and it was a nice win for these guys."
In the 12th minute, Allen bent a free-kick around the defensive wall from 20 yards out to give Geneseo the one-goal lead, which held into halftime.
The Cardinals (8-8-1, 3-5-0 SUNYAC) tallied six shots in the second period but were unable to find the back of the net as the Knights' backfield made it difficult for them to get any clean looks on goal.
Junior keeper Logan Calvey collected five saves to preserve his seventh shutout of the year as the team was outshot by Plattsburgh, 12-7.
Geneseo (9-6-2, 4-3-1 SUNYAC) plays its final conference game tomorrow against host Potsdam at 1 p.m.
