Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Leah Greene scores the team's lone goal in the 67th minute of play to lead the Knights past host Oswego, 1-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Friday afternoon.
"Oswego maintained possession well in the first half and we weren't used to teams possessing the ball as well as they did," said head coach Nate Wiley. "We got more involved in the second half and Leah was able to capitalize on a breakaway. Defensively, we held strong to maintain the lead and we just dug our heals in and did what we had to do to get the win."
Play went back and fourth in the first half as the Lakers tallied six shots but were unable to find the back of the net, keeping the game scoreless at the half.
In the 67th minute, Greene took the ball from senior midfielder Erin Froehlich on a breakaway and scored passed the goalkeeper's left side for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Senior keeper Allison Stamp recorded five saves as Oswego (5-6-3, 2-2-3 SUNYAC) outshot Geneseo, 13-8.
The Knights are off to their best start since the 1993 squad began the season with a 14-1 record in as many games en route to the SUNYAC Championship and a No. 7 final national ranking.
Geneseo (12-2-1, 5-1-0 SUNYAC) continues conference play tomorrow at Cortland with a match at 1 p.m.
