Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Meaghan Johnston scored after just two minutes of play to lead the Knights to a 2-0 victory over Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Saturday.
"We started the game with the kind of intensity you need against any team but especially against a conference opponent," said head coach Nate Wiley. "Once we got out to a two-goal lead we took our foot off the gas a bit. We'll have to learn from that and continue to press to create more opportunities offensively. We connected passes well in the first half but got away from that in the second so that's something we'll have to work on going next weekend."
Two minutes into the game, Johnston scored a header from six yards out off a corner kick by sophomore back Patricia Galan for her first points of the season.
In the 25th minute, first-year forward Leah Greene scored from two yards out along the right goal post after she took a pass from sophomore forward Laurie Knapp to give Geneseo the 2-0 which held for the remainder of the game.
The Knights out-shot the Golden Eagles (7-4-1, 1-3-1 SUNYAC), 14-2, while holding the visitors without a shot on goal.
Geneseo (11-2-1, 4-1-0 SUNYAC) continued its best start since the 1994 squad jumped out to an identical record en route to the SUNYAC Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals.
The Knights return to action next Friday when they travel to Oswego for a match at 3 p.m.
