Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Shannon McGinnis totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year to lead the Knights past New Paltz, 62-41, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball, Friday night.
Junior center Katie Peterson came off the bench to tally 10 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Allison McKenna added 12 points in a game that saw the Knights dig out of an early 14-point hole before holding the Hawks to only 16 points and 24 percent shooting in the decisive second half.
Tied, 6-6, early in the first half, New Paltz scored 14 unanswered points over a six-minute span to take a 20-6 lead with 7:38 on the clock. However, the Knights answered right back with a 14-0 run of their own to finish the half outscoring the Hawks, 18-5, to head into halftime down one, 25-24.
A McKenna layup 18 seconds into the second half sparked a 17-2 run that gave the Knights a commanding 41-27 lead with 13:32 to play that it would never relinquish. McKenna had seven points within the first three minutes of play to key the outburst.
Peterson shined in the second half scoring all 10 of her points, including seven-consecutive points in less than two minutes, while grabbing eight rebounds as the Knights went on to their third-straight double-digit victory.
Geneseo's roadtrip continues tomorrow at Oneonta for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off with the Red Dragons.
