Women's Basketball Shuts Down Oswego In 69-50 Win

Box Score

OSWEGO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore center Allison McKenna scored a game-high 19 points on a perfect 9-for-9 shooting performance, while junior forward Shannon McGinnis added 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Knights to a 69-50 victory at Oswego in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball, Saturday.

Sophomore guard Dana Cohan added 13 points while dishing seven assists for Geneseo (8-4, 2-3 SUNYAC).

"I was proud of the way our team responded today after a tough loss last night," said head coach Scott Hemer. "We worked a lot harder on the defensive end of the court and hopefully we can continue that mindset moving forward.

A stifling Knights defense held Oswego to only 16 points and 6-of-26 shooting (23.1%) in the first half. Geneseo scored the first eight points of the game and eventually built a 25-12 edge with 4:31 on the clock. McKenna, who led all scorers with 11 points, made a layup with 12 second on the clock as the Knights led 30-16 at intermission.

It was more of the same in the second half as Geneseo took its largest lead of the game, 36-16, on a McKenna layup with 18:01 on the clock. Geneseo would be in control the rest of the way as Oswego was only able to get within 10 points, 60-50, with 1:39 remaining before time ran out.

The Knights return to action on Tuesday night, hosting Fredonia for a 6:00 p.m. start in Schrader Gymnasium.
