Box Score PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior foward Justin Scharfe tallied a goal, but it was Elmira snapping the No. 9/11 Knights' six-game winning streak, 5-1, Saturday night.
The Soaring Eagles (7-6) held the Knights, which had averaged 5.2 goals per game during the winning streak, scoreless until the sixth minute of the third period. Scharfe tallied on the power play off assists from senior forward Zachary Vit and first-year forward Jack Ceglarski, but Elmira had already scored three goals in the first two periods.
Elmira would build its lead back up to a three-goal cushion less than three minutes later and added an insurance goal in the 17th minute to seal the victory.
"Elmira made us pay for every mistake we made tonight," said Geneseo coach Chris Schultz. "I also thought their goalie was the best player on the ice for both teams this evening."
Elmira goalie Sal Magliocco was credited with 35 saves to pick up the victory, while his Geneseo counterpart, junior Bryan Haude, totaled 26 stops to take the loss.
Geneseo (10-3) will look to get back on track with a pair of games this Thursday and Friday at Neumann (Pa.). Faceoffs are slated for 7:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
