Box Score MADISON, N.J. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Rich Bellusci scored his third goal in two days but it was Haverford taking a 3-1 decision, Saturday, on the second day of the Drew Fall Festival Tournament.
"Today, we started off a little sluggish, but I thought we picked it up and played very well the rest of the game," said head coach Dom Oliveri. "Overall, I was happy with our performance on the weekend and thought it was a positive way to start the season. I felt we played well in both games and hung in with two really good teams."
Haverford (2-0) got on the board first in the 15th minute for the only goal of the first half, but Geneseo (0-1-1) was able to pull even just under 19 minutes into the second half. Haverford goalkeeper Dan Maddock was able to make a tough save on a free kick by senior back Pat Lynch, but he was unable to collect the rebound and Belusci was there to tap home his third goal of the season with 41:06 on the clock.
Eighteen minutes later, Haverford was able to convert a penalty kick after a handball infraction against the Knights to take a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute. Haveford then added a third goal with under four minutes remaining as Geneseo was pushing forward in attempt to score the equalizer.
Geneseo will look to notch its first win of the season next weekend with a trip north to take on Clarkson on Friday (Sept. 6) and St. Lawrence on Saturday. Game times are 4:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
