Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Tyler Brickler scored two goals while junior Bryan Haude made 32 saves to lead the Knights to a 4-1 victory over Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) ice hockey, Saturday night.
The win was the 100th of Knights' head coach Chris Schultz's career.
"Tonight was a really good road win for us," said Schultz. "We had outstanding goaltending and played with grit the entire game. It was an important two points for us."
The two teams looked to be heading into the first intermission locked in a scoreless tie before a Potsdam slashing penatly with 1:01 to play put the Knights on the power play. Geneseo wasted little time as Brickler found the net 12 second into the extra-man opportunity off assists from junior forward Justin Scharfe and sophomore forward David Ripple to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Brickler also accounted for the only goal of the second half, finding the net of assists from Scharfe and first-year defender Cam Hampson 4:25 into the period as the Knights led 2-0 heading into the third period.
The Knights struck again less than two minutes into what turned out to be the final period as Ryan Stanimir tallied off helpers from senior winger Zachary Vit and first-year winger Stephen Collins to give Geneseo a three-goal cushion.
Potsdam's Jake Rivera finally solved Haude with a power play goal less than five minutes later to get the Bears on the board and make it a 3-1 affair with under 14 minutes to play in regulation.
The Knights held Potsdam (0-4, 0-3 SUNYAC) scoreless the rest of the way, as Ryan Stanimir scored on a long-range shot from behind the Geneseo blue line into an empty net for the final 4-1 score.
Geneseo next heads to Hobart for a non-leage matchup on Friday (Nov. 15). Faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
