Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Kayla DeAngelis and sophmore forward Sarah Malinak each scored two goals apiece to lead the Knights to a 5-1 victory at Ithaca, Tuesday afternoon.
DeAngelis got the offense going early with a goal in the seventh minute. Shortly following two consecutive saves by sophomore goalie Dayna Mercer, the Knights were awarded a penalty stroke at the other end of the field that DeAngelis converted for her 23rd goal of the season.
The Bombers (10-7) responded with a goal of their own 11 minutes later. Following a penalty corner, Ithaca´s Katie Kennedy converted a goal for the equalizer in the 18th minute.
Tied 1-1 at halftime, Geneseo (13-6) scored four unanswered goals, including two by Malinak, en route to its fifth-straight victory to close out the regular season.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Malinak scored her 19th goal of the season to put the Knights ahead, 2-1. Following a saved shot in the 40th minute, senior forward Kerry Hosford assisted Malinak for the tally.
Seven minutes later, senior back Bridget McGovern added to the Knights´ lead with a shot assisted by DeAngelis, who has notched a team-leading 11 assists this season.
The Geneseo offense continued to roll with another goal four minutes later. Following a penalty corner, DeAngelis scored her team-leading 24th goal, assisted by Malinak.
The Knights´ final tally came in the 61st minute on Malinak's 20th goal of the season, served up by sophomore forward Kailey Suhr.
The Knights outshot the Bombers 27-11.
Geneseo will next play in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament this Friday at Cortland. The second-seeded Knights will take on third-seeded New Paltz at 1:30 p.m. after the top-seeded Red Dragons take on fourth-seeded Oneonta at 11:00 a.m. The two winners will on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for the SUNYAC Championship.
