Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Stephen Collins scored his first career hat trick and assisted another goal to lead the Knights to a 6-1 victory over Morrisville in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) ice hockey action, Saturday night.
"Although I thought we played a bit too undiciplined, we achieve our goal for the weekend to win four conference points," said head coach Chris Schultz. "We were composed when it counted, and we played with character in both games which enabled us to take care of business."
Collins staked Geneseo (2-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) to a 2-0 lead with two goals in the first eight minutes of play, including a power-play tally assisted by junior defenseman Jack Caradonna and senior left winger Garry Childerhose, with 14:06 to play in the first period.
Junior right winger Ryan Stanimir made it a 3-0 game less than seven minutes later on an assist from first-year defenseman Derek Stahl to give the Knights a 3-0 edge heading into the first intermission.
Morrisville (0-2, 0-2 SUNYAC) defenseman Eric Fletcher converted a power play opportunity with 4:13 on the clock to account for the only point scored in the second period.
Three third-period tallies by Geneseo, including tallies by senior center Jonathan Sucese and sophomore left winger David Ripple put the game out of reach for the Knights.
Sophomore goalie Nick Horrigan was credited with 17 saves to pick up his first win of the season.
Geneseo will return to action next Friday and Saturday, traveling to Plattsburgh and Potsdam, respectively, for 7:00 p.m. SUNYAC faceoffs both nights.
