GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Just Scharfe scored a power-play goal in the third period for his first tally of the season but it was No. 5 Adrian (Mich.) taking down the No. 15 Knights, 5-1, Tuesday night at Wilson Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs (7-0-0) jumped out to a 3-0 goal lead in the first period and never looked back en route to their seventh-straight victory to start the 2013-14 campaign.

With Adrian on the power play following a Geneseo tripping penalty, forward Josh Ranalli scored the first of his two goals on the night at 5:13 of the first period, before forward Zach Wilson made it a 2-0 lead for the visitors at 14:48. Ranalli tallied again off an assist from forward Justin Basso with under three minutes to play in the period to give the Bulldogs a three-goal edge after 20 minutes of play.

Basso scored a goal of his own at 12:46 to account for the only goal of the second period, putting Adrian up, 4-0 at the second intermission.

Scharfe scored off assists from sophomore right winger David Ripple and defenseman Matt Solomon to get the Knights on the board in the 10th minute of the third period, but Adrian answered five minutes later on a tally by forward Jeremy Olinyk for the 5-1 final score.

Despite making 31 saves on the evening, Geneseo junior goalkeeper Bryan Haude took his first loss of the season to fall to 3-1, while Adrian keeper James Hamby stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced.

Geneseo (4-2) returns to the ice on Friday and Saturday to host SUNYAC rivals Oswego and Cortland, respectively. Both games are slated to faceoff at 7:00 p.m. at Wilson Ice Arena.
