Box Score PITTSFORD, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Sarah Malinak scored two goals and senior forward Kayla DeAngelis tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Knights to a 5-2 comeback victory at St. John Fisher College, Wednesday.
With her three points, DeAngelis established single-season records with 45 points and 18 goals to date. She broke the old record of 43 points set by Michelle Milkovich in 2010, while breaking her own record of 17 goals she scored during the 2011 campaign. DeAngelis also extended the career scoring record she set earlier in the season with 120 points thus far.
The Cardinals (8-9) got on the board first, scoring off of a penalty corner in the second minute. Eight minutes later, St. John Fisher added to their lead with another goal off of a penalty corner.
Geneseo (11-6) answered back with their first goal of the day a minute later. First-year back Liz Doherty scored in the 11th minute following a penalty corner for her eighth goal of the season.
In the 23rd minute, DeAngelis scored the record-breaking tally, assisted by senior back Bridget McGovern, for the equalizer. This is the third game in a row that McGovern has had at least one assist, with eight in total on the season.
Two minutes later, the Knights pulled ahead 3-2 as Malinak scored her 16th goal of the season, aided by DeAngelis' team-leading ninth assist.
The Knights continued their scoring streak in the second half with two goals one minute apart. In the 66th minute, Malinak scored her 17th goal, assisted by senior midfielder Katie Farley. In the 67th minute, Farley got the ball to senior forward Kerry Hosford for Geneseo's final tally of the day.
Despite not scoring in the second half, the Cardinals matched the Knights in shots, 13-13, as Geneseo sophomore goalkeeper Dayna Mercer made eight of her 11 total saves in the second stanza.
Geneseo returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 2) at No. 18 Rochester. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
