Mens Soccer Falls to Plattsburgh 3-0

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo dropped a disappointing 3-0 loss to  Plattsburgh in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) mens soccer play on Saturday afternoon.

In the 24th minute, a foul by Geneseo in the box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity. Plattsburgh senior forward Matt Hamilton took the kick, sending it into the lower left corner of the net to take the lead.

With 20 minutes of play left in the first half, a misplay by a Geneseo defenseman resulted in an own-goal, giving Plattsburgh the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

In the 50th minute of play, Plattsburgh first-year forward Alexis Archilla aimed a high shot that bounced off the cross-bar and into the net to give Plattsburgh the final 3-0 victory.

Geneseo and Plattsburgh matched shot-for-shot, with each side totaling nine shots for the game. Geneseo sophomore keeper Logan Calvey earned two saves in 90 minutes of play.

The loss eliminated the Knights from post-season contention to mark the first time in 16 seasons they have missed the SUNYAC tournament. Geneseo next faces St. John Fisher at home on Wednesday, November 30th at 3 PM to close out the season.
