Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Kayla DeAngelis scored two goals and senior back Bridget McGovern tallied two assists to lift the Knights to a 4-0 win at Brockport on Wednesday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey action.
First-year back Liz Doherty put the Knights on the board in the 19th minute. Following a Geneseo penalty corner, McGovern inserted the ball to Doherty, who shot it into the net. This is the fourth game in a row that Doherty has recorded the Knights' first goal.
Senior forward Kerry Hosford converted a shot off another penalty corner 20 minutes later to make it a 2-0 lead. McGovern shot toward the goal in the 31st minute and Hosford went ahead for the tap in. McGovern has six assists on the season.
Geneseo (9-5, 4-1 SUNYAC) continued their offensive performance in the second half. In the 51st minute, DeAngelis took a rebound off the goalie and shot it straight to the net for a goal. Two minutes later, DeAngelis scored again off of another rebound, assisted by sophomore forward Sarah Malinak, for her team-leading 15th goal of the season.
The Golden Eagles (5-7, 1-4 SUNYAC) were outshot 22-7 by the Knights. Sophomore goalkeeper Dayna Mercer faced two Golden Eagle shots on goal and saved them both for the Knights' fourth shutout of the season.
Geneseo returns to action for their last regular season home match on Saturday (Oct. 26) against Nazareth College. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
