Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo dropped a 2-0 decision at Cortland in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's soccer play, Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons scored once in each half en route to the shutout.
Cortland midfielder Darren McCormack scored in the 23rd minute of the match, chipping the ball into the right corner of the net, beyond the reach of Geneseo sophomore goalkeeper Logan Calvey.
The Knights pushed forward in search of the equalizer late into the second half. A goal for the Knights was waved off for offsides with under two and a half minutes left to play, before a diving save on sophomore midfielder Jaisen Clark's one-timer on a loose ball kept the Knights scoreless.
With the Knights continuing to push forward, Cortland added a goal in the 87th minute on a diving header by midfielder Andres Padilla to put the game out of reach.
One last chance by the Knights, a header from Geneseo senior back Mat Rough, was denied at the right post in the closing seconds to keep the shutout intact.
Clark and junior midfielder Jason Iannone tallied four shots apiece, tying for the most individual shots between the two teams. Sophomore keeper Logan Calvey was credited with two saves in the loss.
The Knights will continue to play on the road, facing off against Oswego tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
