Men's Soccer Shocks No. 6 Brockport, 2-1

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Craig Schackner scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute as the Knights handed No. 6 Brockport its first loss of the season, 2-1, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's soccer action, Saturday, at Saratoga Field.

Senior forward Ryan Yurchak dribbled the ball down the left side and over midfield before feeding a through ball to Schackner, who headed toward the Golden Eagle goal. Brockport goalkeeper Casey Sullivan, who entered the match ranked second nationally with a .933 save percentage and had only allowed four goals in 11 appearances this fall, came off the goal line and attempted to smother the ball before Schackner could get a shot off. Schackner was just able to get enough foot on the ball to slip a shot past the charging Sullivan from inside the penalty box for the decisive goal and break the Knights' three-match winless streak.

"Brockport's style is very difficult to play against and we knew it wasn't going to be a pretty game," said Geneseo head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We took their best shot in the second half, but we hung in there and found a way to win in the end."

Geneseo (6-6-2, 3-2 SUNYAC) opened the scoring in the 15th minute after senior back Pat Lynch converted a penalty kick into the middle of the goal after Sullivan dove to the right. The Knights were awarded the PK after Sullivan took down sophomore forward Stanley Egbuchulam in the left corner of the penalty box as he was dribbling toward the goal.

Brockport (8-1-3, 3-1-1 SUNYAC) found the equalizer in the 71st minute after Bobby Ross heaved a throw-in from the right side of the field all the way into the penalty box, where Peter Dilorenzo was able to head home a shot from six yards out into the right corner of the goal.

Knights' sophomore keeper Logan Calvey made six saves on the afternoon to earn the victory, whle Sullivan totaled three saves to take his first loss of the season.

Geneseo will hit the road for two more matches next Friday and Saturday at Cortland and Oswego, respectively, before finishing the regular season with three-straight home matches against Potsdam (Oct. 25), Plattsburght (Oct. 26) and St. John Fisher (Oct. 30).
