Box Score Geneseo, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Ryan Yurchak scored his third goal of the season in the first four minutes of Tuesday's game against Nazareth to ultimately lead the Knights to a 2-0 shutout at Saratoga Field.
"Mid-week non-conference games can be tough to get motivated for, but we played well," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "Nazareth's style suited us, and we were able to make a lot of plays and create opportunities. We managed to turn two of them into goals. Overall, I was happy with how we played."
Geneseo took the lead after a breakaway by sophomore forward Stanley Egbuchulam, who crossed the ball from the right side into the middle where Yurchak was able to connect, shooting the ball low into the net for the Knights' first goal.
Geneseo (5-4-1) created many scoring opportunities, outshooting Nazareth (4-5-0) 24-8.
The Knights solidified their lead with a second goal with 6:40 left in the game. Egbuchulum fed the ball into the middle to senior midfielder Craig Schackner, who shot it into the lower right corner of the goal to lift the Knights to the victory.
Geneseo goalkeeper Logan Calvey made five saves to secure his first shutout of the season.
The Knights will next face Oneonta in SUNYAC play on Friday (Oct. 4) at Oneonta.
