SUNY Geneseo

Riley Damerell was appointed the Director of Athletic Communications and Media Relations at SUNY Geneseo in June 2023 after serving two years as the Assistant Director.

Prior to Geneseo, Damerell was the Sports Information Director at Maritime College for three years. Damerell’s responsibilities included the maintenance of maritimeathletics.com, writing and distributing game recaps and press releases, keeping statistics for all home events, maintaining historical archives, and creating unique and creative content to promote the Maritime Athletics brand and all of the student-athletes. During his time with the Privateers he was the primary contact for all 15 varsity teams and he covered four trips to the NCAA tournament, including two men's lacrosse conference championship teams. In addition to implementing post-game press conferences and highlights for all home wins, Damerell spearheaded the switch to YouTube for all home streaming events and expanded the streaming coverage to include swimming and baseball for the first time.
 
Prior to Maritime, Damerell worked in the SUNYAC as the Assistant Sports Information Director at SUNY New Paltz. At New Paltz, Damerell assisted the Athletic Communications Director in an overhaul of how sports were covered. Damerell helped implement multiple new weekly video segments, as well as post-game highlight videos with interviews. He was also responsible for setting up the live video stream at home events and helped introduce live commentary to the streams for the first time. Damerell was also the statistical contact for all varsity sports at New Paltz and was the media contact for women’s tennis, men’s and women’s volleyball, and baseball.

Damerell graduated from SUNY Purchase in 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in journalism, and he also competed on the men's volleyball and men's tennis teams. He was introduced to athletic communications at Purchase where he spent all four years working in the sports information office where he assisted with all game day operations including event set-up, and keeping statistics. Damerell was a four-time All-Skyline Conference honoree in men’s tennis with three first-team nods, and is one of the winningest players in program history. He also helped the volleyball team reach its best finish in program history with a record of 14-9 his senior season.
