John Ives is entering his second year assisting the Ice Knights in the 2026-27 campaign. Ives grew up playing goaltender in Ithaca, NY and started coaching goalie's with the Cortland-Homer High School team in 1986, and was the goalie coach for the LeMoyne College club hockey team from 2004-2010.I ves went on to take over the head coach role at LeMoyne in the 2010-11 season. During his tenure, the Dolphins played five straight UNYCHL tournament championship games, winning three of the five. In 2017, Ives joined the Skaneateles Lakers High School Varsity staff as their goalie coach, and played a pivotal role in the Lakers State Championship runs in 2019, 2023, and 2024. During that span two Laker goalies were honored as New York State Player of the Year. Ives is a retired Captain from the Syracuse, NY Police Department and lives in Tully, NY with his wife Susan, his Akbash dog and two cats. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, fishing and working in his wood shop. Â
