ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's cross country team opened its 2026 season at the Rodenbeck Invitational, hosted by St. John Fisher, and came away with a second place finish in the 6k race, narrowly falling to the University of Buffalo by a 19-38 margin.
Jake Gaudette led the way for Geneseo in second place, racing to a time of 19:35.2. Samuel Vigione, Nathan Geroux, and Daniel McPherson placed seventh through ninth with times of 20:04.7, 20:05.2, and 20:08.4, respectively. Owen Shaffer-Sermini rounded out the scoring five for the Knights with a time of 20:22.7 in 12th place. Brian Guiheen and Tyler Fischer served as displacers, crossing in 14th and 17th with times of 20:25.5 and 20:28.0.
The Knights placed all seven of their scorers within 53 seconds of one another, helping keep the team score tight with the Division I Bulls. Geneseo's next race will be at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Genesee Valley Park on Sep. 19 at 12 p.m.
