CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season, picking up a 7-0 sweep at Cortland on Thursday afternoon to improve to 2-0.
The Knights once again controlled doubles play, sweeping all three flights. Natalie Pipes and JoAnn Catalano won at first doubles, 6-1, while Samantha Rava and Rachel Molloy followed with a 6-2 victory at second doubles. Talia Wutz and Lauren Levatino closed out the doubles point with a 6-2 win at third doubles.
Geneseo carried that momentum into singles, sweeping all six flights to complete the shutout. Pipes battled through a tough opening set at first singles, rallying for a 7-5, 6-2 win. Rava was dominant at second singles, dropping just three total games in a 6-1, 6-2 victory, and Molloy was equally efficient at third singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Levatino needed a tiebreak to close out the first set at fourth singles before finishing off a 7-6, 6-1 win, while Wutz didn't lose a game at fifth singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Catalano capped the sweep at sixth singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Knights improve to 2-0 on the season, while Cortland falls to 0-1. Geneseo will host Sage on Saturday at 1 p.m. to open up Empire 8 play.
