ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's track and field team captured its second-straight Empire 8 title on Saturday afternoon at Nazareth, putting up 257.5 points. The championship marks the Knights ninth-consecutive conference championship overall and 16th as a program.
DAY ONE RECAP:
The SUNY Geneseo women's track and field team began the Empire 8 Championship Meet at Nazareth on Friday night with a bang, posting 124.5 points. The Knights hold a sizable advantage over the competition, with Nazareth in second at 63 points, as Geneseo seeks back-to-back Empire 8 titles.
Jillian Ambler provided a big highlight for the Knights on the opening day of competition, setting a new program record in the long jump with a distance of 6.11m, breaking the previous record held by Alexa Wandy and Camile Wutz at 5.95m. Geneseo turned to the track events and put up a strong showing in the mile, placing four runners inside the top five.
Shelby Boise led the way for the Knights in second place at 5:04.94.
Brynn Mooney picked up a first place finish in the 400m with a time of 57.66, while
Stella Riley and
Nicole Gretzinger took second and third, respectively. In the 5000m,
Ari Reback finished first overall with a time of 17:14.41, with
Ann Brennan and
Annika Hurley finishing second and third, respectively. The Knights capped off the day in the distance medley relay with a first place finish behind the team of
Hannah Wierer,
Dakota Limbert,
Dia Sweet, and
Maggie Kleiber.
Mackenzie Kubat won the pentathlon for Geneseo, earning the top spot with 3,634 points after winning the high jump and long jump, and finishing second in the 60m hurdles and shot put.
Chloe Abbott took third in the pentathlon with 2,951 points.
Payton Mehalick and
Lauren Jaklitsch added seven points in the shot put by finishing fifth and sixth.

DAY TWO RECAP:
Jillian Ambler kicked off day two of the meet on a high note, winning the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds. In the 800m, Geneseo placed five runners inside the top six, with
Sierra Doody,
Nicole Gretzinger, and
Dakota Limbert leading the way in first through third, respectively. Ambler added another first place finish to her championship resume, winning the 300m with a time of 25.01 seconds. The Knights dominated the 3000m race, with five runners in side the top seven and
Ari Reback,
Ann Brennan, and
Annika Hurley sweeping the top three spots. The Knights capped off the track portion of the meet with the team of Ambler, Gretzinger, Doody and
Brynn Mooney winning the race at 3:49.99.
Lauren Jaklitsch continued the impressive senior campaign in the weight throw by finishing first overall at 18.21m.
Marisa Mazzacco picked up first place honors in the triple jump with a distance of 11.34m.
Elaina Flaitz added six points for the Knights in the high jump by placing third overall at 1.56m.
