GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team celebrated senior day with a 190-110 win over Ithaca on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Pool. The seniors also celebrated Faculty Recognition Day, where the seniors honored a faculty member who had a positive impact on their time at Geneseo. Seniors Alise Hale, Sarah Cooper, Makayla French, Karly Bray, and Marianna Santabarbara were honored in the pre-meet ceremony.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
The women's 200-yard medley relay team opened the meet by taking first and second place, with Courtney Sorbello, Emily Thomas, Nina Chicatelli and Alise Hale finishing at 1:49.51, while Alex Sotek, Sarah Cooper, Kaitlyn Geary and Erin Johannsen finished at 1:51.41. Hannah Brockman took the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching at 10:40.52. Abby Funk and Emily McCord finished first and second in the 200-yard freestyle, while Sorbello, McCord and Emma Bouwens followed suit, taking the top three spots in the 50-yard backstroke.Â
Hale had another impressive finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 58.02. Sotek and Chicatelli finished first and second in the 50-yard freestyle and Chicatelli continued her efforts, finishing on top in 100-freestyle. In the 100-yard backstroke, Sotek edged out Sorbello, with their times being 1:00.03 and 1:01.26, respectively. Thomas took down the 100-yard breaststroke with ease, while Brockman and Funk finished on top in the 500-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Sotek, Chicatelli, Sorbello and Johannsen finished with another first place time of 1:39.02. Lydia Benjamin had a great day in the 1- and 3-meter dives, placing second in both with scores of 256.75 and 460.55. For the full results from the meet, click here.
