Women's Swimming and Diving Caps Off Competition At DIII Shootout, Sweeps RIT and Trinity at Home

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the DIII Shootout on Saturday in Chicago, as well as earned a pair of wins over RIT and Trinity (TX) at home. The Knights improve to 7-0 on the season with the wins over the Tigers.

The relay team of Maya Marcyan, Maura O'Donnell, Kaitlyn Geary, and Erin Zagrobelny got the meet started with a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.01, then O'Donnell competed in the 1000 yard freestyle and earned the top spot with a time of 10:58.87. Emily McCord picked up the third win in as many events for the Knights in the 200 yard freestyle, recording a time of 1:58.11. Marcyan kept the winning ways going in the 100 yard backstroke, winning with a time of 59.68, while Addison Luce took first in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:07.86.

Maeve Wright was the first to touch the wall in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:13.86, and then Courtney Sorbello was the fastest swimmer in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.80, and the 100 yard freestyle at 53.85. Marcyan picked up her third win of the meet in the 200 yard backstroke, recording a time of 2:08.91, and Luce added her second win in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:32.45. O'Donnell continued to dominate the distance events with a time of 5:17.97 in the 500 yard freestyle, while Geary earned a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly at 1:00.34. Maura Sheehan helped the Knights complete a clean sweep of first place finishes in the 200 yard IM at 2:13.36, and the team of Zagrobelny, Geary, McCord, and Sorbello capped it all of in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:39.01.

Morgan Davey swept the diving events for the Knights, scoring 246.08 in the one meter dive and 226.65 in the three meter dive.

Alex Sotek provided a big highlight for the Knights on Saturday at the DIII Shootout, placing second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.22, earning 22 points for the Knights. Emily Thomas picked up a top-five finish in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:26.30, while Lydia Benjamin took third in the three meter dive at 247.30. Geneseo finished seventh out of 10 teams, scoring 477 points.
