CHICAGO, I.L. - The SUNY Geneseo men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the DIII shootout on Friday afternoon, hosted by the University of Chicago.
Alex Palmer provided the big highlight for the Knights on day one, breaking the program record for the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.84.
Both the men's and women's 200-yard medley relay teams opened the meet with a sixth place finish, recording times of 1:32.19 and 1:44.97, respectively.
Connor Baird took fifth in the 400-yard IM at 4:07.19, while
Chloe Marcyan took eighth on the women's side at 4:43.25.
Peter Peyser picked up 14 points for Geneseo in the 200-yard freestyle in 10th place, while
Abby Funk earned a seventh place finish at 1:56.40. In the 50-yard freestyle,
Brian Pabisch recorded a time of 20.88 in fourth place out of 20 competitors. On the women's side in the 50 freestyle, Sotek picked up a top three finish with a time of 23.58.
Chris Varrichio took on the 100 yard backstroke for Geneseo and came in eighth place at 53.77. On the women's side
Molly McGourty placed 10th at 59.69. Palmer then stepped up for the Knights and added a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with his record breaking time of 54.84, which also marked an NCAA B cut.
Emily Thomas competed in the event for the women's team and took fifth at 1:04.90.
In the diving events,
Greg Meder took first overall in the one-meter dive at 316.60, while
Lydia Benjamin took second on the women's side at 258.80.
